BIAS was conceived specifically for the Museum for Communication Berlin to explore ambivalences between concrete and synthetic sound through hyper-directional amplification.
The Museum für Kommunikation Berlin (Museum for Communication) is the world’s oldest postal Museum. An interdisciplinary, cross-medial and participatory Museum focused on the complex changes of the information society. Magnified by an impressive architecture with very specific acoustic qualities, the collection hosts a high influx of visitors, including several group visits a day and guided tours with restless sonic activity.
Over a period of 24 continuous hours, high definition audio material recorded on site with 360-degree audio technologies was played back through an eight-channel hyper-directional sound system non visible to the public, offering an exceptional listening experience in which disorientation is used as a strategy to induce extended perception.
